DO YOU KNOW YOURSELF?

June 23, 2020

Let me ask you two questions…

1. Do you want to grow and experience more success in your future?

2. What do you want to do?

The majority, if not all, of us would confidently answer the first questions with a yes. Yet, when it comes to question number two things likely got a little more hazy. The reason being, we all know that we want to grow and succeed in any and all areas of our lives, however, less of us know what it is that we actually want to do with our lives.

How to Know Yourself

The question, “what do you want to be when you grow up” is most commonly asked to children who have, what seems like, an infinite amount of time to figure out the answer. However, I believe we should continue to ask ourselves this question throughout our lives. A college degree and a steady job may be where you are currently in life, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re doing what you love, and it doesn’t have to be where your journey ends.

I want to pose a few questions for you to think about and answer in your own time. These questions are wonderful tools for learning more about ourselves and where we intend to go.

1. Are you happy where you are?

The first and most important question to consider.

It is very common for a person to work hard in order to achieve a certificate or a degree for a specific career path, and then find themselves miserable later on in life. The funds and hard work that went into that degree are often enough to silence our complaints. However, it is important to be honest with yourself about whether or not you are actually happy. Once you can come to terms with this step, it is as if the world has once again found itself at your fingertips just as it was when you were little.

2. What would you enjoy doing?

As you consider this question be thinking about your passions. Think of all the little things you do without being asked to do them, such as mentoring people, crafting, engaging in music. These are the things you are passionate about, and passion is what will give you an advantage and motivation.

3. Is this something you can do?

Something we must not forget to factor in is out ability level. Before you begin to chase after one of your passions, be sure that the required skills are something you have or could realistically gain. That is not to say that you should get down on yourself or doubt yourself. Just know your ability level.

4. What is your motivation?

Knowing why you want to chase after something is crucial. Always make sure you are doing things for the right reasons and that they are coming from a positive place in your heart. This is all part of knowing yourself.

If your motivation is honest and good, it will be so much easier to remain passionate as you chase down the life you want to lead.
